kidney01_400March 14th; the theme for 2012 was Donate - Kidneys for Life - Receive. So keep chekcing the official website for details of the 2013 theme. The focus of the campaign will be on the life-saving aspect of organ donation and the positive outcome of kidney transplantation.

Organised by the International Society of Nephrology and the International Federation of Kidney Foundations, the aim of the day is to raise awareness of how important our kidneys are and how to reduce kidney disease.

Most people don't realise that diabetes and high blood pressure are key risk factors for Chronic Kidney Disease, which can result in kidney failure and even premature death.

But you can catch these problems and treat them if the symptoms are spotted early enough.

On World Kidney Day the aim is to encourage ways to prevent kidney disease. Throughout the UK there will be talks by experts on how to look after your kidneys through a healthy diet and care, free blood pressure tests and even charity golf days.

With events happening across the globe, there's no excuse to not get involved and check your kidneys are in tip top condition!
