It’s this time of the year again, isn’t it? Peace on earth, health, prosperity, love… season greetings! But this season we have a pandemic unveiling its third, fourth, fifth strike, not sure I lost count and the Greek alphabet has only 24 letters.
In the meantime people die. Millions die. 5.4 million people globally and counting. And this number represents the ones we know. And life has proven that we never really know when it comes to human suffering and loss of life.
So, here goes nothing with all the wishes for health.
Putin is ready to attack Ukraine, Ethiopia is clashing with Sudan and western Sahara fights, there is a crisis in the Armenian Azerbaijani border and of course Afghanistan, Syria, Iraq are in crisis. China is fully armed, Kim Jong-il is playing with missiles in the open and with nuclear in secret and ISIL is trying to find its way back.
Here goes nothing with peace as well.
Inflation, unemployment, poverty; 10% of the world’s population holds the 85% of the global wealth. 689 million people, live in extreme poverty on less than $1.90 a day. Forgive my cynicism but it looks who’s going to get them first, hunger or COVID because this is the other missing piece, these people don’t lack only food, they lack in kind of health protection. They are doomed.
Here goes nothing with prosperity even though prosperity works for the very few.
What’s left? Love! Gosh! Leaving aside the fact that we all live in deeply divided societies where one side is ready to literally eat the other, there is an old saying: 'If you don't love yourself, how in the hell you gonna love somebody else?' But we don’t! We don’t love our selves because we don’t love the body we are part of. Earth. We don’t love earth. We destroy our planet day after day, hour after hour, minute after minute doesn’t matter what an eighteen year-old says in front the Swedish parliament Friday after Friday.
So… season greetings!
“Greeting is an act of communication in which human beings intentionally make their presence known to each other, to show attention to, and to suggest a type of relationship (usually cordial) or social status (formal or informal) between individuals or groups of people coming in contact with each other.” Says the online encyclopedia and Cambridge dictionary explains: “something friendly or polite that you say or do when you meet or welcome someone.”
So, that it for now, my friendly and deeply polite …hello and cordially: PLEASE DO TAKE CARE OF YOURSELF AND THE ONES YOU LOVE! TAKE CARE OF EACH OTHER!
