Croatia. Horrific murder of a 18-year-old pregnant girl; the culprit was a 20-year-old man.

Greece. A terrible car accident, four dead; the culprit was a 24-year-old man

What have they got in common?

Those responsible for both tragedies were children of wealthy parents. "Dad's sons."

corrup01_400Prejudice? Facts from Croatia are not in favour of doubts. Greece? I'll leave the conclusion to my Greek friends.

And yes, many would say, murders are happening in all parts of the society; traffic accidents are caused by bad roads, old cars, weather conditions, uneducated drivers…

All of these - every day. Unfortunately.

Every victim is a victim, every culprit is a culprit; regardless of financial status.

But...

The biggest culprit is the decline of moral standards and human values, and that's what's happening in the mountainous Balkans the last few decades (more or less, depending on the area).

As long as you are in a country where the nouveaux rich, who made their wealth in strange and misty activities in the chaotic days after the social changes (revolutions, civil wars, wars), and who, with some strange automatism, are well connected with political parties - no matter right or left orientation - are systematically proclaimed as "respectable" families, while scientists, artists, small craftsmen and people who contribute to society are pushed to the margins. As long the money is the only measure of success on a distorted scale of values, and knowledge becomes the subject of ridicule; as long as rooted pathological desire to possess extinguishes every need for giving; as long as the feeling of power in this distorted system pushes Ego to the height of the Master of Life, without any compassion and responsibility; as long the money buys justice in the courts because it is stronger than the truth; as long as upbringing is based on status symbols rather than on talks and knowledge...

For that long the term "Dad's son" is not a prejudice. It is the reality that surrounds us.

The reality that we have created as direct participants or as passive observers, leaving kids to distorted values.

Because if you don't teach your son that a woman is not a thing to be bought with money and that love cannot be proven or deserved with blows; if you don't teach your son that a car is not a toy but a lethal weapon in the hands of irresponsible people; if you don't show your child that knowledge and awareness are greater wealth than money you earned; if in your greed and primitivism you are full of  pride, looking at the monstrous result of your upbringing, and you wipe his mistakes with money...

Then we have "dad's sons" as the brutal killers of girls, we have "dad's sons" as irresponsible murderers in cars.

As a rule, not as an exception. As a fact, not as prejudice.

Because, true sons never get the chance. It was killed the same moment when the fake "values" were installed as a rule, and money was imposed as a measure.

The true sons remained dormant in childlike dreams, which, those responsible for their growth, turned into a nightmare.

And no, not that one father shoved a knife in the hands of his child, and not that the other father pressed the accelerator pedal in the car, but they both, with their actions, sent a signal that led to the tragedy, and  now, one son will live, and the other will be buried under the stigma  of "Dad's son."

It's not prejudice. It is the cruel reality of this time and of this region and it will remain the same as long as we're all closing our eyes to the flood of primitivism, theft, corruption and ignorance.

We are all guilty. And we are all victims.

Krivci i žrtve

Tada pojam "tatini sinovi" nije predrasuda.

A pravi sinovi nikada nisu dobili šansu.

Nije predrasuda. To je okrutna stvarnost ovog vremena i ovih prostora i ostat će takva dok god svi budemo zatvarali oči pred bujicom primitivizma, lopovluka, korupcije i neznanja.

Svi smo krivci.  I svi smo žrtve.
